Faze Magazine’s Be Extraordinary Event + Giveaway

What I love about Faze, (the company I’ve been interning at for the past year and a half) is that they don’t only create great magazines for teens and young adults in Canada, but they also host amazing events for girls in Toronto! Every live Faze event usually includes celebrity guests and performers, hair and make-up stations, inspiring public speakers and of course prizes and swag bags! Their last event, on November 3, had an added super-fun element: a fashion show! Students who aspire to be stylists from school’s in the Greater Toronto Area put together a number of different looks for varying occasions. From the concertgoer to life of the party to the athlete, every style was covered!

Each look was judged by a panel of professionals including celebrity stylist and make-up artist Paul Venoit, fashion industry expert Gail McInnes, Degrassi star Jessica Tyler, fashion designer Cara Cheung, fashion expert Annie-Claude Touzin and Faze superstylist Carolee Custus.

While the fashion show was a sight to see, singers and musicians including Vita Chambers, Tyler Shaw and Max Rivers gave performances that were amazing to hear.

You may enter a Faze event empty handed but that’s definitely not how you leave. With so many amazing on-stage prizes ($400 Sennheiser headphones, hello!) every girl is bound to feel like it’s Christmas already. Upon leaving, attendees were also handed amazing swag bags with some of the hottest products.

Back-to-back days with Olly Murs

This post is much delayed, but it is timely with the release of Olly Murs’ music video for Dear Darlin!

On May 1, 2013, my sister and I went to the Olly Murs concert at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. It was a great show, but not the last time we’d be seeing Olly during his visit to Canada!

On May 2 the British singer spent the morning after his sold-out and wild (picture bras being thrown and “take it off” being chanted over and over again by the audience) concert in Toronto, at a Faze Magazine cover shoot! That’s right, Faze’s next cover boy is Olly Murs! I was fortunate to be on set to capture the behind-the-scenes photography, so here are my shots from the shoot:

Olly looked great! It was so funny, he loved all the clothes the stylist bought, but being the fashionisto he is, when looking through the wardrobe he’s like, “I actually have some pants that would go great with this top! I’ll be right back” and with that he ran back to his room (the cover shoot was held in his hotel) and came back with a handful of his own clothes. We’ve certainly never had a cover star do that before :p It was quite hilarious.

Another hilarious and unique Olly move? He made the shoot a sing-along! Faze Cover Shoot Musical: The Olly Murs Edition. His album “Right Place Right Time” was the soundtrack playing throughout the entire day, so of course Olly knew all the words. And so of course he sang along! Whether it was while he was getting ready, getting wardrobe touches or even while posing for the camera; nothing stopped Olly from breaking out his dance moves either. Hey, none of us minded at all. His voice is heavenly. I figured that as an artist, you’d be sick of hearing your own songs, but for Olly that is definitely not the case.

Faze Magazine Issue 48: Ed Sheeran and Munro Chambers

The latest of Faze will be out next month. In the meantime, here’s a look at the awesome cover with the one and only Ed Sheeran. It’s only fitting that he’s wearing plaid for his first Canadian cover. 😉

Also, here’s my story on Degrassi’s Munro Chambers, which is included in the issue. He was a cool guy to interview. Hilarious, honest and extremely down-to-earth. Read about his journey as an actor, and his relationship with his twin…yes, identical twin brother!

Make sure you pick up a copy of the issue (available in Canada at Chapters and Indigo or online at faze.ca) for more great interviews (including a lengthy and detailed exclusive with Ed), contests, fashion and more.

Busy day of interviews with: Cory Lee and Dragonette

Today was all about bussing around Toronto, conducting great interviews and hating on the TTC. That’s what you get when you have two back to back interviews in opposite sides of the city.
First up was the lovely Cory Lee, who most of you would recognize as Degrassi’s Ms. Oh. Well not only is this Torontonian a talented actress but she’s a triple threat who can sing and dance as well. Promoting her new album Hot Pink Heart Part One, I got to catch up with the rising star, who was sweet and well spoken.

Then it was off to the Sound Academy, which for those of you who don’t know is not in the city but on the outskirts. There’s a beautiful skyline view of Toronto from that area, but it’s a mission to get to!
After searching for a relocated bus stop for an hour, I finally arrived at the venue just in time for the interview!
Joel, Dan and Martina were great people to talk to. Very witty, sarcastic and down to earth. Their answers were so honest.

Look out for full Q&A’s from both artists coming soon!
